Joan (Urbas) Goble

Joan Urbas Goble, 83, passed on Tuesday, February 24th, 2026, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL of natural causes.

Joan was born July 14, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Dr. John and Alberta (Czapski) Urbas. She was one of four children, Tracy (Urbas) Hill and John V. Urbas, who survive, and Martha “Nan” Urbas, who preceded her in death. In July 1959, Joan married Howard H. Goble at St. Mary’s Church in Westville, IL. They went on to have one daughter, Leslie (John) Balsamello, and later divorced.

Joan attended Danville Area Community College and St. Elizabeth Hospital’s School of Nursing. She served as a nurse at St. Elizabeth Hospital for 33 years and then went on to serve at Pleasant Meadows in Chrisman, IL on the Alzheimer’s unit for another 6 and a half years. Joan was proud of her career as an excellent nurse, and she truly enjoyed taking care of others.

Special interests for Joan included spending time with her cats and taking care of her yard. She particularly loved pine trees and being outdoors. In her younger years, Joan loved to spend time with friends, riding motorcycles and just having a good time.

Joan leaves behind several special friends, Tom (Randy) Nier, Nora Greene, and Marcia Hyche, who will all miss her dearly. She also leaves behind an honorary grandson, Legend Watson, who started as a neighbor, but became her best friend and part of her family over the years.

Joan was a truly special person and will remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
